5 Questions with Javier

Get to know one of our solar installers. Here are 5 questions Javier.

Q: What has been your favorite part of working in the solar industry so far?

A: It has always been a career goal of mine to work in the electrical field and working in the solar industry has allowed me to build on that passion. My favorite part is being able to do this as a living while accomplishing the benefits of solar: going green, helping the environment, and helping people cut the cost of their electricity bills. It feels good to be a part of that.

Q: You've mentioned traveling for work in the past. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?

A: I would love to go to Tokyo, Japan because I am a big anime fan.  Growing up, my two favorite anime were Naruto and Bleach. Watching anime sparked a little sense of creativity and enhanced my love for drawing. I would remember certain things I'd see and started drawing them. I pretty much love everything about Japan: the different anime, the food, the candies.

Q: How do you balance work and being a parent of a toddler?

A: I feel like I have a pretty good foundation and strength to balance work and being a parent. My wife and I have a pretty good energy and most importantly good teamwork. While I'm at work she is home cooking, cleaning, and taking care of our daughter. I then take over when I get home and since my wife is in school she is able to take that time to do her homework. We have a pretty good dynamic overall. Before I had my daughter I think the feeling of giving up was stronger because I didn't have much to lose. She is my strength and now there's no quitting because I want to build a better life for her. It also helps that my daughter is a good sleeper and sleeps through the night.

Q: If you were to tell one person "Thank You" for helping you become the person that you are today, who would it be and what did they do?

A: My stepdad. Even though he wasn't my biological father I've known him all my life. He has been there for me since I was a toddler. He made sure I had everything I needed. No matter what, he would always put his family first. He wasn't a wealthy man but he made sure all of our needs were met. To this day I can still remember the time when he used money he had saved up for a new pair of boots to buy me supplies I needed for my school project. That's the kind of man I want to be. If my family ever needed anything, I would make sure to put them first. He is a hardworking man with everything he does. I'm thankful for him and how he has taught me to be the man I am today for my family.

Q: Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at.

A: The first thing I would say I'm good at is picking up new things quickly. I am a pretty fast learner. I really enjoy singing and dancing, and I picked those up quickly. My in-laws are a big family and each member has their own set of talents/skills including boxing, rapping, and singing. I can now say I've mastered boxing and rapping (okay maybe not rapping). Video making is definitely another thing. I do it as a hobby. I have spent entire days just watching a bunch of tutorials on how to edit videos - special effects, lighting, and learning the different styles. I can tell the difference in quality and style of the project. While most people pay more attention to the acting, I tend to focus more on the little details of the videography. For example, most of my favorite TV shows use certain camera shots that make me forget that I'm watching TV and I feel like I'm actually there experiencing it as the character themselves.
